Arson at 2nd Redruth Stores - Monday 3rd November 2008
In the early hours of Tuesday morning (28th October) the store building next to the 2nd Redruth HQ was burnt to the ground.
The building was used by 2nd Redruth scout group for the storing of equipment and tents and was also used by the men's institute in Redruth. Not only was group equipment stored there, but also a great deal of District Explorer Equipment which was all lost in the blaze.
The fire in the storage building was so fierce that it also caused a great deal of damage to the recently refurbished Scout HQ next to it. Windows were melted and broken, frames, woodwork charred, and roofing tiles smashed.
Stenek District Explorers would like to pass on their sympathy to everyone at 2nd Redruth and the men's institute, for their loss of the building and equipment.
Surfing (Again) - Sunday 28th September 2008
As we all enjoyed it so much last time, Explorers from the District went surfing again down at Gwithian. With thanks to Dan and Ian from Gwithian Academy of Surfing, we were able to fine tune our skills that we developed last time. Everyone managed to get to their feet by the end of the day.
The weather stayed brilliant all day, and we had a very tasty Barbeque at Lunch, kindly cooked and done by Liz and Sue.
Everyone had a great time and hopefully we will be going back again next year. We would like to thank Gwithian Academy of Surfing for two fantastic surfing lessons that we have had.

Tin Pan Alley - Sunday 21st September 2008
The annual District Tin Pan alley took place this weekend. It was the turn of the District Explorers to run the Spider Web base. The sunshine was gorgeous, think we might be having a late Indian Summer!!
The base went very well with all groups completing the challenge. Below is a snap of the base.
Exmoor Expedition 2008 - 1st - 3rd August 2008
A weekend of stunning scenery and hikes awaited 9 Explorers from Stenek District. Over the weekend trip the group completed two hikes; a 12 mile woodland hike, passing over Tarr Steps and a shorter Hike in the Valley of Rocks at Lynton, Devon. The weather managed to hold out brilliantly with only light rain just before we left.
We had a minibus to get around and sang the Wurzels - Combine Harvester nearly all of the time! We managed to get quite a few heads turning when going through the villages and towns! We stayed at a bunkhouse (Exmoor Base Camp) just outside of the village of Lynmouth.
A great time was had by all and everyone had a great laugh, along with some good hikes around the Exmoor area.
On behalf of the Explorers who went, thanks very much to Simon and the other leaders who organised and went on the trip.
Surfing Lessons - June 2008
A fun filled day was had by everyone, while having surfing lessons by trained instructors at Gwithian. Whether Novice or Pro, everyone got to their feet (eventually!!). A great start to the summer, with many of us coming back a bit sunburnt! Hopefully we will be going again to improve even better on our surfing skills!
